Short-haul babymoons: four European hotels made for a slow, pregnant pause

A short flight, a pregnancy massage, a lot of lying down and dinner you didn't cook. Four calm, grown-up hotels in Italy, France and Portugal that are perfect for one last trip as two.

A babymoon isn't about doing lots. It's about doing very little, somewhere lovely, before life gets loud. The best ones are a short hop from the UK, have a spa that knows what to do with a bump and a pool you can float in. These four do exactly that, and none of them is more than about two and a half hours in the air.

Before you book a babymoon abroad

  • Go mid-pregnancy if you can. The NHS says many women find 4 to 6 months the most comfortable time to travel.
  • Check your airline's rules. After 28 weeks you may need a letter from your midwife or GP, and many airlines stop flying you from around 36 weeks (32 for twins).
  • Get the right travel insurance. Make sure it covers pregnancy, premature birth and changing your flights home.
  • Pack your maternity notes. And know where the nearest hospital is, just in case.

Babymoon questions

When is the best time for a babymoon?
Most people go in the second trimester, when sickness has usually eased and the bump isn't too big. The NHS says many women find 4 to 6 months the best time to travel.

Is it safe to have a massage when pregnant?
Pregnancy massage from a trained therapist is popular, and many spas offer it from the second trimester. Always tell the spa you're pregnant and check with your midwife if you have any complications.

Can I fly to Europe when pregnant?
Flying isn't harmful to you or your baby, according to the NHS. After 28 weeks airlines may ask for a letter confirming your due date, and most won't fly you close to the end of pregnancy.

Facilities and prices were checked on each hotel's own website on 9 October 2026 and can change, so always confirm when you book. Flight times are approximate. Photos courtesy of the hotels. If you’re trying to conceive (TTC), you probably know that there are certain foods and nutrients that become especially important once you’re pregnant. But nutrition plays a vital role even when trying to conceive, much like laying a strong foundation before constructing a house.

Certain nutrients create that foundation by supporting egg and sperm health (yes, nutrition matters for both partners), hormone balance and creating a hospitable environment for a fertilized egg to implant. In fact, studies show that certain nutrients can help increase fertility and improve success rates for both natural conception and fertility treatments.

‍

In other words, nutrition is a key player in the TTC journey, but getting the right nutrients in the right quantities can be tricky. That’s where supplements come in. Just as you’d take a multivitamin to fill in nutritional gaps for optimal health, fertility supplements can give you that extra nutrient boost.
