Trying for a baby? Pop in the first day of your last period and your usual cycle length, and we'll estimate when you're likely to ovulate, your most fertile days and when to take a test.

How ovulation is worked out

Ovulation usually happens about 14 days before your next period, not 14 days after your last one. That's why your cycle length matters. On a 28-day cycle it falls around day 14, but on a 32-day cycle it's closer to day 18.

Sperm can survive for a few days inside your body, while an egg only lasts about a day once it's released. So your fertile window is the few days before ovulation and the day itself.

Signs you might be ovulating

  • Cervical mucus changes. It becomes clearer, wetter and stretchy, a bit like raw egg white.
  • A slight rise in temperature after ovulation, if you track it first thing every morning.
  • A twinge on one side of your lower tummy, which some women feel.
  • A positive ovulation test. These pick up the hormone surge 24 to 36 hours before you ovulate.

Don't just aim for one day

The NHS says having sex every 2 to 3 days through your cycle gives you the best chance, rather than timing everything around ovulation. It takes the pressure off too.

When to see your GP

Most couples conceive within a year. See your GP if you've been trying for a year or more, or sooner if you have irregular periods, a condition such as endometriosis or PCOS, or any worries about your fertility.

Next steps

This calculator gives an estimate only and isn't a form of contraception. If your cycles are irregular, ovulation tests or a chat with your GP or a pharmacist will give you a clearer picture.

If you’re trying to conceive (TTC), you probably know that there are certain foods and nutrients that become especially important once you’re pregnant. But nutrition plays a vital role even when trying to conceive, much like laying a strong foundation before constructing a house.

Certain nutrients create that foundation by supporting egg and sperm health (yes, nutrition matters for both partners), hormone balance and creating a hospitable environment for a fertilized egg to implant. In fact, studies show that certain nutrients can help increase fertility and improve success rates for both natural conception and fertility treatments.

‍

In other words, nutrition is a key player in the TTC journey, but getting the right nutrients in the right quantities can be tricky. That’s where supplements come in. Just as you’d take a multivitamin to fill in nutritional gaps for optimal health, fertility supplements can give you that extra nutrient boost.
